History and working methodologies:
Error Collective, which was then more of a team, met and was formed in July of 2009 as part of an international competition of the arts which deteriorated into a reality TV show. The team was asked to choose a name for itself during one of the first episodes of the show, but they declined the choice and requested that the host of the show give the collective a title. The name Error was given to the collective and it stuck.
The first project Error executed, 20 Hours, was a durational performance but also a way to speed up the depth of the relationships among the collective. Because of the strengthened connection between Error, they were able to develop future projects more quickly, openly and actively.
Coming straight off the durational performance event 20 Hours, Error sought to develop an object which sparked during that project; Matching was a work developed to help our audience get to know Error better while producing more object based work through silversmithing and printmaking but while still combined with performance and documentation. Following Error's Matching all participants on the international competition of the arts/reality TV show Artothlon were fired and ejected from their accommodation in Vilnius, Lithuania. With the turn of events Error left Vilnius for Tallinn to complete a short residency at Culture Factory Polymer where they completed solo projects as well as developing Matching further to create a second series of silver matches and a second series of matchboxes with screenprinted labels. Error temporarily said their goodbyes after the residency at Culture Factory Polymer in order to resume "real life".
It was in the Autumn of 2010 when Error really started to produce work by utilizing spaces in combination with re-purposed materials. Ilus Salong was a space which could have been described as cold, dark, dirty, unorganized, disheveled, unusable, shabby, cluttered, et cetera but since then Error has been using the clutter from the space to create functional installation in the space; the collective have taken on a practice of re-using and building as a way of organizing materials. It was through this practice the Error built the Error Balcony, Sunset Sauna and MACTEP Suite and through experimentations within those projects which led to Honor Thy Error Sauna, Shopping Cart Sauna, Error Energia and those projects which have yet to come.
Error's working methodologies have been a product of necessity, function, material and experiment which have produced installations, objects and performances which provide participants with unique, obscure and sometimes dangerous experiences which should not soon be forgotten.
